Today’s televisions are much different from the ones that were common ten years ago. With today’s newer styles that are flat and wide, there are new styles of television stands for them to be displayed upon. For some this is optional, but many require the use of a special type of stand with a mount for a television. Among one of the most popular styles are those that are tall. Tall TV stands give the homeowner a chance to have a theater-like experience without having to mount the television to the wall.

Both wall mounts and flat panel stands are popular today, each of which cater to different tastes. Wall mounts are popular because they are clutter-free and stylish, while stands are popular because they still provide the amount of storage that yesteryear’s entertainment centers provided.

Tall TV stands give the theater experience that wall mounts otherwise give, while still providing that storage that so many households need. Families with lots of movies or have video game consoles and the like hooked up to the television have a huge need for that extra space, especially if they find dozens of cords to be unsightly. Though tall TV stands hold the television up a few feet higher than the actual shelf in most cases, the necessary cords can often be run along the back of the arms.

When looking at any type of television stand, there are a few different materials to look at and consider. The one you choose will most likely be dictated by a combination of a few key factors: budget, material durability and longevity, and overall style.

Everyone wants to get a low price, no matter what they are buying, but sometimes the cheapest is not the best answer. This is very true when purchasing a piece of furniture, and even more true when purchasing a piece of furniture that will be holding a heavy television.

The actual arms are almost always steel, but the body of the stand can be made of plywood, wood, steel, or steel with a glass top. Plywood is the cheapest material and is made out of wood shavings, making it the most prone to breaking and the shortest lived. Those made of steel are not very attractive but have a decent life span, while those made out of steel with a glass top are far more stylish — though they often do not last all that long in homes with children. Wood is the material of choice for many because it is both extremely durable and easy on the eyes. The downside is that it is also the most expensive option.

Some homeowners are wary of having a stand that holds the television so high off of the ground. A quality model will be heavy enough at the bottom to safely maintain the weight of the television at a height. Tall TV stands are not for everyone either way, but they do make an attractive addition to most homes.
